We just pay Rp 1 for one character SMS !
Have you ever sent SMS ? which operator u use? CDMA or GSM ? just see the tariff !
As we know that we are charged for sending SMS based on how many message(s) or SMS we sent. For example if tariff of SMS is Rp. X for one message ( SMS ), we we’ve to pay X times amount of SMS we sent.
When you read and more understand in Packet Description Unit of SMS which is consist of 140 byte for one SMS, we can conclude that for one SMS we paid for 140 byte or 1120 bits and dont care how many bits we use in the messages.
So we paid same tariff if we send 1 character until 160 characters. In other word we have to pay as maximum byte / bits or characters we send in one messages.
If we use latin alphabet we use 7 bit for one characters, so for default we have 160 char for one message. Please see again how we can get 160 characters in one message here. So for default, commonly the operators use tariff per one message or per 160 characters.
Why I said in the title that there is revolution in charging SMS ? let see further.
Esia as one of brand from Bakrie Telecom as an CDMA operator in Indonesia starting from 15 May 2008 used tariff for SMS is per characters we send.
For example if we send only 5 characters such as : ” Hello!” we’re just charged 5 characters X tariff / characters.
Esia announced that tariff for SMS is Rp 1 for one characters.
The characters can be in format number, alphabet, space, symbol, semicolon, dot, and others punctuations.
Here is the tariff for SMS Esia prepaid and postpaid :
| On net in Esia subscriber environment | Rp 1/ char |
| Off-net to all operator in Indonesia | Rp 1/ char |
| International SMS | Rp 1000/ SMS |
The requirements are :
-
Tariff is vali from 15 May 2008.
-
Tarif +ppn 10%.
-
Valid for Esia subscriber.
-
Tariff applies to all of Latin alphabet letters numbers punctuation marks such as spaces question mark exclamation point, and symbols like @,+,%,#, etc
- For Korea, china, Japan symbol the tariff aplies based on how many characters of the symbol.
-
Onnet Esia subscriber maximum tariff is Rp 50 per SMS
-
Tariff applies for individual demand, not for subcribed SMS, SMS premium for shortcode etc. The SMS tariff for ESME based on the services offered by Service Provider.
I think this is not only in Indonesia tariff revolution, but also in the world!
Amazing and fantastic ! they must be said by person who used to send SMS in their life. We can save our money and spend in correct tariff based on what we send.
What for we pay “bit” we didnt type ? and what for you spend maximum tariff per SMS if we can pay just how many bit we send ?
